Redefining SMART Goals

Have you ever achieved a goal only to still feel unsatisfied with your life? Then you move on to the next goal and hope it’s the thing that finally makes you feel like you’ve “arrived” to the life you want to be living… This was my life on repeat.

By 29 I had achieved every life goal I had set for myself up to that point. I had exceeded my career expectations, making six-figures in a leadership role before 30. I had a nice home and was debt-free except my mortgage, which I had a plan to pay off by 35. I had a stable long-term relationship/marriage. By all accounts, I was living “the dream.” I decided it was time to start a family.

If you’ve been following my story up to this point, you know that didn’t turn out how I expected. My losses, and not being able to move forward with my life as I’d envisioned it, lead me on a personal growth journey that brought me to the realization that despite everything I had achieved I was not happy or satisfied with the life I was living. So I set about on the journey of creating a life that I would be satisfied to have lived. From that experience and everything I’ve learned along the way, I’ve come up with a different approach to what makes life goals “smart.”

I utilize this framework in my coaching practice to help clients make decisions and set/evaluate goals. I recently gave my first live training on it and I’m excited to introduce it to all of you via this recording. You can also download the accompanying PDF here.

What questions have you found helpful in making life decisions or deciding what goals you want to pursue? I’d love to hear if you found this training helpful. Please leave a comment or connect with me.

I'm just a girl from a small southern town who loves coffee, nature, reading, dancing, baking, travel, and fitness. I'm pretty basic, but also quirky in my own ways. I used to be ashamed of that, but now I love myself. This blog is my story. I hope sharing it helps someone somewhere to not feel alone. To know that if they are currently living through their storm that there is sunshine and a rainbow waiting for them on the other side.
